April 16, (THEWILL) – The Rivers State Government has dismissed as false and misleading, viral reports alleging that the State Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, summoned suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy for a formal inquiry.
Speaking to THEWILL on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, a senior government official described the reports circulating on social media as “baseless fabrications” aimed at stoking political tension in the state.
“There is no truth to the claims that the Administrator summoned the suspended Governor or his deputy for any form of inquiry. No such directive has been issued by Vice Admiral Ibas. The public is advised to disregard the falsehoods making the rounds,” the official said.
The fake report, which went viral on Tuesday, claimed that Ibas had directed Fubara and his deputy to present official documents and records relating to political appointments made during his tenure, including details on procedures and justifications.
It further alleged that they were to appear in person on Friday, April 18, 2025, by 10:00 a.m. at the Conference Room of the Rivers State Government House.
The government reiterated its call for responsible journalism and cautioned against the spread of disinformation capable of undermining public trust and stability in the state.
