September 08, (THEWILL) — The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed reports claiming that its petrol processing unit was shut down for repairs due to catalyst leaks and other technical issues.
Spokesperson for Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, described the reports as “fake news.”
According to Reuters, industry monitor IIR Energy had alleged that the refinery’s petrol unit had been offline since August 29 and could remain shut for two to three months.
The report further suggested that while the refinery planned to restart its 204,000 barrels-per-day Residue Fluidised Catalytic Cracking Unit by September 20, extensive repairs and equipment replacement might delay operations.
Chiejina, however, debunked the claims, insisting they were baseless. “Fake news. Why ‘could’ if they are sure?” he queried.
