November 13, (THEWILL) – Fashion Sakala’s hattrick, combined with Patson Daka’s opening, gave Zambia some hope of qualifying from Group B of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Chipolopolo now have seven points, three more than Tunisia, who will play Equatorial Guinea later in the day.
Zambia will have a chance to advance to the final round of matches if the Carthage Eagles lose to the Ecuatoguineana.
From the start, the host team knew they were up against Mauritania, who had no chance of making it to the play-off stage.
Towards the end of the first half, they scored three times in 11 minutes. With a connection inside the six yard box off a cross from the left, Daka broke the deadlock.
Sakala added the second in the 37th minute with a straightforward tap in, this time from the right, as Mauritania were undone by width once more.
Sakala scored from the penalty spot just before halftime for his second goal. In the 63rd minute, he completed his hat trick, giving Zambia their second group-stage victory and keeping them in touch with joint group leaders Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea.
