Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State,

April 22, (THEWILL) – Newly admitted students of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, have been urged to pursue academic excellence as the institution has provided the necessary conditions for them to excel.

The Rector of the institution, Dr Basilia Igbokwe, gave this charge in his address during the 47th matriculation ceremony of the Polytechnic, which was held at its mini stadium, on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

“I am honoured to stand before you as the 9th substantive Rector of this great institution. On behalf of the 15th governing council, Academic board, Management, Staff and students of this institution, I welcome you to this momentous occasion.”

Dr Igbokwe, who urged students to be guided by setting clear goals, developing a growth mindset, engaging with the institution’s community, staying focused, motivated, also enjoined them to take care of their physical and mental health.

“Take responsibility for your academic and personal growth, attend classes regularly, do your assignments, and avoid any form of evil activity on campus. Remember, your time in this institution is a planting season, and the harvest will depend on how well you tend the farm and the seeds you plant”, she said.

According to her, The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, whose mission is to nurture and sustain the culture of best practices, is one of the second-generation Polytechnics in the country, adding that the year 2025 marks its 47th year of academic excellence as it started in 1978.

In her address at the ceremony, Miss Paschaline Chiamaka, who spoke on behalf of the matriculants, thanked the Rector, management and Staff of the Polytechnic for finding them worthy of being admitted into the institution.

“We are happy to have matriculated today. Many applied for admission into this institution, but thank God that we are among the lucky ones who made it.”

The matriculation ceremony also featured offering categories of scholarships to disabled students, first student to pay school fees, female cum male dominated departments; and others.
