April 19, (THEWILL) – Over 6,500 football agents from 138 member associations are sitting an exam set by FIFA, which they must pass in order to continue their role after October 1.
The exam features 20 multiple-choice questions, which must be answered within an hour. Candidates have been given a 512-page exam-study document to prepare with, and the test will be open-book. Results will be issued within seven business days of the exam, and FIFA says there will be no grounds for appeal in the case of failure.
The test is part of FIFA’s overhaul of the sector, which includes stricter controls and a cap on agents’ earnings, and has led to a legal dispute involving “super agents” such as Jonathan Barnett and Rafaela Pimenta.
The regulatory overhaul has caused concern among some agents over how much they will be allowed to earn, while others have welcomed the increased standardisation it will bring. FIFA plans to introduce several changes including ending dual and triple representation and making sure that agents representing the selling club are paid up to 10% of the transfer fee.
The exam is aimed at making sure agents understand the new regulations with the overhaul in motion for the standardisation of agents’ representation and operation.
