BEVERLY HILLS, January 06, (THEWILL) – On the sidelines of the ongoing Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), summit in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabai, FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and held discussions about the important role that football can play as a uniting factor in the region.
In addition, Infantino discussed with the Prince how the game can become a vector of core social values, such as inclusion, solidarity and tolerance as it has been over the years across the globe.
The FIFA President further highlighted progress made recently by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation in the developmental aspect of women’s football in the country. Keeping with the times, both leaders also addressed the challenges and disruptions that the novel Coronavirus pandemic has brought to the game since last year.
Infantino’s presence at the summit constitutes part of a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia. His itinerary for the visit include meetings with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation President, Yasser Al Misehal and the Sports Minister HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, as well as visits to sports facilities all of which have been planned out beforehand.
