February 05, (THEWILL) – The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are set to embark on their journey to Morocco for further preparations and acclimatisation to weather conditions in North Africa.
The squad of 25 players to represent the country, selected by the coaching crew, will make the trip via the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, on Wednesday, February 8.
In Morocco, the team will play preparatory international friendly matches before the final roster of 21 players is decided. The Flying Eagles, two-time FIFA Under-20 finalists, will use the opportunity to fine-tune their tactics and strategy in readiness for the 2023 CAF U-20 African Cup of Nations, which will be held in Egypt.
The tournament, set to commence on February 19, will also serve as the African qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Indonesia. Nigeria will be in Group A alongside hosts Egypt, Senegal and Mozambique, and the top four teams from the tournament will qualify for the World Cup.
Defending champions Ghana, who won their fourth title in 2021, will not be participating this year after failing to qualify.
