July 28, (THEWILL) — Former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, Otunba Segun Sowunmi, has criticised former Senate President David Mark for his claim that only the African Democratic Congress (ADC) can solve the insecurity and other challenges currently plaguing the North.
THEWILL recalls that Mark, who is the interim National Chairman of the ADC, which involves members of the opposition coalition, including Atiku, former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Ameachi, among others, recently said that ADC is the only party to combat, insecurity, hunger and poverty bedeviling the region if voted to power in 2027.
But, Sowunmi, while reacting to Mark’s statement in an exclusive interview on Sunday in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, cautioned the ex-Senate President to concentrate on using his position to resolve the incessant killings in Benue State, his country home, rather than dreaming of how his coalition party would tackle insecurity and other problems affecting the North, if elected in the next election.
He expressed embarrassment over Mark’s statement for not concerning himself to putting an end to insecurity in Benue, citing Yelwata community, where over 100 people were killed and others displaced by Fulani Militia, but how to wrestle power from All Progressive Congress (APC) with his opposition coalition, to tackle insecurity, poverty and other challenges in the North, if his party is voted for.
He wondered why Mark, with his experience in politics and as a two-time Senate President, could join ADC, which he called “a coalition of confusion”, describing ADC’s allegations that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration was threatening serving governors from joining the coalition as unfounded.
Sowunmi said, “I am particularly embarrassed by my father (Mark) and I know that he should not get himself involved in this mess, but if he deem to be loyal than a soldier, he has gotten himself to a contradiction that his previous lifestyle cannot justify, he was a Senate President in the country for many years under the PDP, whatever insecurity challenges, he must you his big position solve problems for people of Benue to carry his dignity back into the corner of those who have not treated them fairly.
“The coalition is the coalition of confusion; they are a cabal who do not have the capability of managing where they are, and that is why they are jumping about. Don’t make it about Atiku alone; I am talking about others, too.
“When they were in PDP who threatened them, who threatened them, when they were in APC who threatened them, when came back to PDP who threatened them, when they left PDP for SDP who threatened them, when they left SDP to go to ADC who threatened them, see what is confusing them is their personal confusion and inordinate ambition, they lack capacity for what they say they way to do”, he stated.
