April 18, (THEWILL) – Manchester City midfielder, Phil Foden, has returned to full training after undergoing an emergency appendix surgery that forced him to miss the March international break.
Initially, Foden was expected to miss about four weeks of action, which meant sitting out the entirety of April. He, however, has recovered quickly and could make an appearance in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.
Foden has been the only absentee in the Manchester City squad in recent weeks, but his return now gives manager Pep Guardiola a full squad to choose from as the Citizens compete for a treble of trophies this season. The midfielder is expected to be available for the upcoming English Premier League fixture against Arsenal on April 26, as well.
Foden’s position on the right wing still seems to be up for grabs in Guardiola’s new 3-2-4-1 setup. With the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, and Kyle Walker, who have been deployed there, Foden would need to rediscover his best form to reclaim his starting position. Last season, he was a regular starter under Guardiola, often lining up as a false-nine striker while City awaited the arrival of Erling Haaland.
