September 01, (THEWILL) –Â Wesley Fofana, the Leicester City centre-back, has officially moved to Chelsea from the King Power Stadium.
The Blues made deals to sign Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella earlier in the window in order to fill the void left by the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who moved to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
Chelsea turned their attention to Fofana after missing out on Jules Kounde, who went to Barca and Matthijs de Ligt, who preferred Bayern Munich. Three bids for Fofana were rejected, but a fourth, understood to be worth £70 million plus an additional £10 million, persuaded Leicester to sell.
Fofana agreed to a seven-year contract and joins Thomas Tuchel’s defence this summer after passing a medical exam. Speaking on the move, he said: “The two last days have been really big days for me and I’m very happy. I trained this morning with the team and it’s a dream for me.
“I’m very excited to start playing games for the fans and the club. I’m here to win trophies – the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, everything. I came here to win and the club is built to win trophies so I’m here to continue that.”
