October 09, (THEWILL) -The footballing world on social media joined in the felicitations to celebrate the 27th birthday anniversary of Asisat Oshoala, unarguably the best female footballer of her time on the continent and one of the top forwards in European and international football.
Oshoala’s already high profile was further elevated last season when she and her teammates finished the football calendar with a unprecedented tally of 167 goals while letting in only 15 in an entire season that was only sullied by one loss in 34 matches and finished it off with the prestigious UEFA Women’s Champions League that made Oshoala the first and only African woman to lift the trophy.
This season, one of the most decorated African footballers has continued where she stopped last season with contributions to her teams pummelling of all oppositions. With two goals against Betis, Valencia and Villarreal and one goal and assist against Deportivo and Arsenal, she is already paving the way for more awards on the continent and abroad.
Currently, Oshoala has once been named the BBC World Player of The Year while picking up the award for African Player of The Year on four different occasions for a joint-record of wins with Perpetua Ijeoma Nkwocha, Samuel Eto’o Fils and Yaya Toure.
She has also won the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) thrice with the Super Falcons and finished the competition as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Top Scorer. Oshoala has two La Liga titles, two Copa de la Reina trophies, one FA Cup honour and the accolade of the Chinese League Top Scorer to her name.
