July 26, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest are reportedly considering a potential move for Nigerian midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, as the club continues to build up its ranks ahead of the new season.
The 26-year-old central enforcer, currently at Leicester City, has emerged as one of the prime targets for the two-time European champions. While Forest have already made some notable additions to their squad, including Super Eagles right-back, Ola Aina, and Manchester United product, Anthony Elanga, they are keen on bringing in a defensive midfielder, a left-back, and a goalkeeper before the transfer window closes.
Having narrowly escaped relegation in the previous season, Forest are eager to avoid a similar fate in the upcoming campaign. Manager Steve Cooper is focused on shrewd recruitment to strengthen the squad, and signing a player of Ndidi’s calibre could play a vital role in achieving that goal. However, the club is not expected to make an immediate move for the former Genk midfielder, with any potential deal likely to materialise in the later stages of the transfer window.
Ndidi is being considered as an alternative option to Ibrahim Sangare, but his transfer could be hindered by Leicester’s valuation. With 192 English Premier League appearances for the Foxes, Ndidi boasts substantial experience that could seamlessly integrate into Forest’s midfield. As his existing contract with Leicester is set to expire next year, this summer presents an opportunity for a potential move to the City Ground.
If the deal goes through, Ndidi will join fellow Nigerians, Ola Aina, Emmanuel Dennis, and Taiwo Awoniyi, further enhancing the country’s international presence within the club’s ranks.
