April 22, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest have officially requested that the professional referee body PGMOL make public the audio communications between match officials from their controversial 2-0 English Premier League loss to Everton on Sunday. The club felt they were wrongly denied three clear penalties.
The crucial incidents in question were challenges by Everton’s Ashley Young on Giovanni Reyna, and Callum Hudson-Odoi, as well as a handball shout – all of which went unpunished. After the game, Forest took to social media to allege that VAR Stuart Attwell was biassed, claiming he supported fellow Midlands club Luton Town.
In a statement released Monday, Forest said: “We firmly advocate for the broader football community and supporters to have access to the audio and transcript for full transparency, ensuring the integrity of our sport is upheld.” They have specifically requested the release of audio relating to the three Young incidents.
The EPL has described Forest’s social media comments as “extremely disappointing” and confirmed they will investigate the matter alongside the FA. The FA has written to Forest, manager Nuno Espirito Santo, defender Neco Williams and former referee Mark Clattenburg for observations.
Doubling down, Forest issued another lengthy statement arguing referee allegiance rules should consider wider contextual rivalries in the league table, not just local derbies. They insist more transparency is needed from PGMOL to boost confidence in the system.
