October 22, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest proprietor, Evangelos Marinakis, received a five-match stadium restriction following an incident where he spat on the ground near match officials. The independent regulatory commission published their findings on Tuesday, describing Marinakis’s behaviour as “an egregious display of disrespectful behaviour.” The Greek businessman defended his actions, stating the spitting was unintentional, attributing it to a persistent cough from smoking multiple cigars daily.
The punishment arrives during a period of disciplinary issues for the club. Forest received a £750,000 fine earlier this month regarding social media communications that questioned an official’s integrity. Additional suspensions affect manager Nuno Espirito Santo and vice-captain Morgan Gibbs-White following their dismissals during their tie against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Despite these off-field complications, Forest’s performance remains strong in the 2023/2024 English Premier League campaign. The team recorded just one loss in their initial eight fixtures, demonstrating remarkable consistency. Their recent 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace positioned them eighth in the standings.
The stadium ban prevents Marinakis from attending upcoming matches against Leicester, West Ham, Newcastle, and Arsenal.
