December 02, (THEWILL) – Formula 1 driver, Sergio Perez, will leave Red Bull Racing following the conclusion of the 2024 season, ending his four-year tenure with the team.
The Mexican driver currently sits eighth in the drivers’ standings, with the final race of the season scheduled for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.
The 34-year-old has struggled significantly throughout the 2024 campaign, recording zero victories and experiencing a dramatic decline in performance.
His four podium finishes were concentrated in the first five events of the season, with his last victory dating back to the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
His most recent race in Qatar, where he finished in 17th place, further highlighted the challenging period.
Team principal Christian Horner provided insight into Perez’s situation.
He said, “I am going to let Checo come to his conclusions; nobody is forcing him one way or another. It is not a nice situation for him to be in.”
Despite signing a contract extension for 2025 earlier this year, Perez cannot be directly terminated from the team.
Sources indicate that Perez might transition into an ambassador’s role should he choose to remain with Red Bull.
Since his Formula 1 debut in 2011, the driver has accumulated a career record of six wins and 39 podium finishes, demonstrating his significant contribution to the sport.
