September 20, (THEWILL) – Due to a disagreement with French football about player image rights, Kylian Mbappe declared on Monday, that he will not participate in sponsor activities for the national football federation leading up to the 2022 World Cup.
The France team and the Paris Saint-Germain striker, were scheduled to do a team photo and other sponsor events at their Clairefontaine Training Facility on Tuesday, but the striker has declined to take part.
In a statement to that effect, Mbappe said, “I have decided to not take part in the photo shoot after the French federation (FFF) refusal to change the image rights agreement with the players. My representatives and I fully regret that no agreement could be reached, as asked, before the World Cup.”
Late on Monday, hours after Mbappe’s complaint, the FFF declared that they would evaluate the image rights deal as soon as possible.
Their statement read, “After positives exchanges between the leaders of the team, the president of the federation, the head coach and a member of the marketing department of the federation, the FFF is committed to revise as quickly as possible the agreement on the image rights tied to the players. The federation is delighted to work over a new agreement.”
