July 23, (THEWILL) – France’s National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP), has issued a stern warning to Paris Saint-Germain amidst the ongoing saga surrounding Kylian Mbappe’s future at the club.
The UNFP has threatened potential legal action against PSG, accusing the Ligue 1 champions of violating French labour laws by pressuring the star forward to either accept a new deal or leave the club. PSG’s latest tactic of excluding Mbappe from their pre-season squad has drawn criticism from the union, who asserted that all players should be entitled to fair working conditions, free from coercion.
In response to PSG’s pressure on Mbappe, the UNFP stated: “These players – all of them – must enjoy the same working conditions as the rest of the professional workforce… putting pressure on an employee – via the deterioration of their working conditions, for example – to force them to leave or accept what the employer wants constitutes moral harassment, which French law firmly condemns.”
The union firmly believes that players like Mbappe should not be subjected to unfair treatment and reserves the right to take civil and criminal action against any club acting in such a manner. While rumours of interest from Saudi Arabian officials have surfaced, Mbappe seems set on a move to long-time suitors, Real Madrid.
However, Real Madrid sources have refuted claims of an existing agreement for a free transfer in 2024, though they are reportedly planning to make a move for the Frenchman within the next year. PSG’s high asking price may delay Real Madrid’s bid, prompting the Spanish club to consider waiting until January for a free transfer negotiation instead.
