October 15, (THEWILL) – WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, says he is preparing for “an absolute battle royale” against Francis Ngannou when the pair clash on October 28. Fury last fought in December when he beat Derek Chisora in their trilogy bout, while this will be Ngannou’s first professional boxing match after recently stepping away from MMA.
Despite declaring he was “still fat”, the 35-year-old Fury cut a trim figure compared to his usual out-of-competition appearance. Speaking to DAZN, Fury said he has been training non-stop for nine weeks and always prepares fully for any fight.
Although the heavy favourite, Fury believes Ngannou’s power and MMA success means it is a risky fight. Fury said even a drunk big man could hurt you with one punch, let alone “an absolute killer like Ngannou”. Fury is taking the bout 100% seriously and training as hard as for any previous fight.
Fury said there are no foregone conclusions in boxing and every fighter must be respected. He is preparing for an “absolute war” and anything less will be an easy night. Fury refuses to underestimate Ngannou given his journey from homeless to world champion in just 6 years.
The two heavy-hitters will collide in the late October bout in what Fury expects to be a battle royale between the boxing and MMA champions.
