May 13, (THEWILL) – John Fury, the father of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, was seen with blood gushing from his forehead on Monday, after an altercation with a member of Oleksandr Usyk’s camp. The confrontation occurred during the media day activities leading up to Saturday’s highly anticipated undisputed world heavyweight title clash between Fury and Usyk in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Footage circulating on social media appeared to show the 59-year-old John Fury engaging in a heated exchange with an individual wearing a Usyk team tracksuit. The situation escalated when John Fury appeared to headbutt the other man, causing a cut to his forehead and resulting in blood streaming down his face. Security personnel swiftly intervened to break up the incident.
In a statement to Sky Sports, John Fury defended his actions, claiming he was provoked by disrespectful comments directed towards his son, whom he described as “the best ever heavyweight to wear a pair of boxing gloves.” He asserted, “If you come in space, you are going to get what is coming.”
Tyson Fury, the reigning World Boxing Council heavyweight champion, was not present during the altercation. He distanced himself from the situation, stating: “I’m not here for all that, I’m here to get the job done and go home and rest.” Saudi authorities have not filed any charges related to the incident as of yet.
