May 12, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain’s manager, Christophe Galtier, has confirmed that Lionel Messi will be in the starting lineup for their match against Ajaccio on Saturday.
THEWILL recalls that Messi had received a two-week ban after embarking on an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia. However, his ban was reduced by a week following a formal apology he issued on social media last week.
In his statement, Messi expressed remorse, saying, “I apologise to my teammates, to the club… I had this trip to Arabia organised and I couldn’t cancel it… I repeat again and apologise for what I did. Here I am, waiting for what the club decides.”
Following his apology, Messi was allowed to resume training alone on Monday, before rejoining the team on Tuesday. Galtier spoke to the Argentine star about his return and noted that Messi appeared calm and highly motivated to play, emphasising his determination to win another trophy. The PSG manager confirmed during on Friday that Messi would indeed be starting in Saturday evening’s game against Ajaccio.
Messi has been in outstanding form for PSG this season, contributing 15 goals and 15 assists in 28 Ligue 1 matches. However, rumors continue to swirl about his future. He is likely to leave PSG at the end of the season when his contract expires in June, with potential destinations including Barcelona or Saudi Arabia.
