August 30, (THEWILL) — Chelsea have completed the signing of Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United in a deal worth £40 million plus a 10 percent sell-on clause. The 21-year-old has penned a contract running until 2032, making him the second player to move from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge in consecutive years following Jadon Sancho’s earlier switch.
Garnacho expressed his excitement about joining the world champions, stating it was an incredible moment for his family. The Argentina international referenced Chelsea’s Club World Cup victory and described the opportunity to join what he considers the best team in the world as amazing and special.
The transfer comes after a difficult period at United, where Garnacho has not appeared in any matchday squads this season. Head coach Ruben Amorim publicly told the winger to find a new club in front of his teammates, leading to Garnacho being among five players allowed to return late to pre-season training.
During his time at United, Garnacho made 144 senior appearances after joining their Academy from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 at age 16. The winger contributed 26 goals and 22 assists across his Manchester career, establishing himself as a regular first-team player before his relationship with management deteriorated.
Garnacho has earned eight caps for Argentina but has not featured in the national squad since November 2024. Chelsea had maintained long-standing interest in the player throughout his turbulent final months at United, ultimately securing his signature despite the ongoing tensions at his former club.
