November 06, (THEWILL) — Genoa have appointed Daniele De Rossi following the dismissal of Patrick Vieira on Saturday. The Serie A club endured a difficult start to their 2025/2026 campaign under the Frenchman, winning just once in nine league matches before his departure.
De Rossi has agreed terms through to the end of the current season and will take charge in time for Sunday’s match against Fiorentina.
The former Roma midfielder will lead Thursday’s training session before being formally presented on Friday. Genoa sit 18th in Serie A with six points, having secured their first victory of the season on Monday with a 2-1 win over Sassuolo.
The 41-year-old Italian previously managed SPAL in Serie B for four months between October 2022 and February 2023.
He then returned to Roma, where he spent the bulk of his playing career with 616 appearances, replacing Jose Mourinho in January 2024. De Rossi oversaw 30 matches at the Stadio Olimpico with a win rate of 46.7 per cent.
His tenure at Roma included guiding the club to the Europa League final in 2023/2024, where they fell to Bayer Leverkusen.
However, the club dismissed him after four matches of the following Serie A season when they failed to record a single victory.
Genoa’s opponents on Sunday are also seeking a new manager after Fiorentina parted company with Stefano Pioli on Tuesday.
De Rossi faces an immediate challenge to lift Genoa away from the relegation zone during the remainder of the campaign.
