March 15, (THEWILL) – The German Football Association (DFB) has made it clear that it will not support Gianni Infantino’s re-election as FIFA president.
This announcement comes ahead of the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali, where Infantino is set to be re-elected as no challengers have come forward to contest him.
Germany joins a select few nations to publicly declare they do not back Infantino’s decision. In a statement, the DFB revealed that it has contacted FIFA in recent weeks on various issues but has received no reply or only insufficient information.
DFB President, Bernd Neuendorf, expressed his disappointment with FIFA’s lack of transparency and called for the organisation to become more open in its dealings with national associations.
While Neuendorf remains hopeful that discussions with Infantino will lead to positive outcomes, he believes that FIFA must address the concerns of its member associations seriously.
