Ghana will present four teams for African club competitions next year, the football association has said.
There had been fears that only two clubs would be in position to represent the nation in Caf events, but Ibrahim Sannie Daara has allayed them.
“We have been asked by Caf to present four clubs for Africa – two for Champions League and two for Confederations Cup,” Ghana FA spokesman, Ibrahim Sannie, told Hello FM in Kumasi.
This comes in the wake of many local media reports saying Caf wanted Ghana to have just two teams in all competitions.
Ghana’s club teams have been dire in recent years, so much so that none have gone into the group stages in the past two seasons. Apart from Berekum Chelsea’s group stage impression in 2012, no Ghanaian team had gone that far in the preceding several years.
This time the four reps – Kotoko, Heart of Lions (Champions League), Hearts of Oak and AshGold (Confed Cup) – will have to keep the nation’s pride.
