April 20, (THEWILL) – Ghanaian rap artiste, Michael Elliot Darko, aka Obrafour, has slammed a $10 million lawsuit on Canadian singer, Aubrey Graham, professionally known as Drake, for alleged copyright infringement.
According to the Ghanaian rapper in a lawsuit filed in the US district court for the southern district of New York, Drake sampled the remix of Obrafour’s 2003 song ‘Oye Ohene’, in his own song, ‘Calling My Name’, without Obrafour’s consent.
The lawsuit also stated that Drake emailed Obrafour, seeking permission to sample the song, but received no response.
The suit added that Drake went ahead to sample the song which was included in his latest album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’.
Obrafour had not yet responded to the June 8, 2022 clearance email or the follow-up on June 13, 2022 clearance email at the point when Drake’s ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ album was released on June 17, 2022.
