August 6, (THEWILL) — The family of late Nollywood actress, Temitope Osoba, has dismissed widespread reports claiming she died from breast cancer, describing the reports as false, speculative and unauthorised.
The statement was released on Thursday, August 6, a day after news of the actress’ death broke and reports linked her passing to her previous battle with breast cancer.
In the statement shared on Osoba’s official Instagram page, the family said the rumours had added to their grief and appealed to the public to stop spreading unverified information.
“We are deeply saddened by the spread of false and unverified reports concerning the passing of our beloved.
“At this difficult time, we wish to categorically state that the numerous claims circulating on social media and various blogs regarding the circumstances surrounding her death are false, speculative, and entirely unauthorised.”
The family urged the public to respect their privacy and refrain from sharing misinformation, adding that any official updates would be communicated through Osoba’s verified channels.
“Should there be any information the family wishes to make public, it will be communicated through our official channels and by authorised representatives only. We ask the public and members of the media to rely solely on those official statements and to disregard all unverified reports.”
The statement did not disclose the cause of Osoba’s death or provide details about her burial arrangements.
News of the actress’ death broke on Wednesday after her colleague, actor Alesh Ola Sanni, confirmed she died on Tuesday evening. Her passing came as a shock to colleagues and fans, especially after she had publicly shared her recovery from breast cancer and returned to acting in 2025.
Osoba was widely known for her roles in Yoruba films, including “Ile Owo”, “Omo Iya Kan”, and “Gucci Girls”.
Beyond acting, she became an advocate for breast cancer awareness after documenting her treatment and encouraging others facing similar health challenges.
