December 02, (THEWILL) – On Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum, Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a driving layup with two seconds left to bring the Milwaukee Bucks to a 127-125 victory over the Charlotte Hornets.
The Bucks, on a win-loss season tally of 14-8, are now on an eight-game winning streak. With 40 points and 12 rebounds, Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee statistics while teammate Khris Middleton chipped in with 21 points.
The Hornets’ key player LaMelo Ball, a second-year star, hit a 3-pointer with 5.9 seconds left to tie the game at 125. But, Jrue Holliday found Antetokounmpo near the top of the lane for that game-winning basket after a timeout on the floor.
It excited Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer, who referenced it in his post-match comments: “I mean, that’s a hell of a finish. He’s just so talented. And he does so much around the rim. The dunks and everything get a lot of attention and probably for good reason, but I think (that’s) his ability to use the glass and his ability to play fast.
“That’s when you’re going downhill that hard to have touch off the board and things like that, just a great finish. Just a great play by Giannis.”
For the Hornets, who are presently on a win-loss stat of 13-11, Ball had a career-high 36 points, five rebounds, nine assists, and three steals. He also hit eight 3-pointers for the first time in his career in a big night for the 20-year-old. Teammates Kelly Oubre Jr. had 25 points and Miles Bridges had 22. In the first quarter, the Hornets made 10 of 17 3-point attempts.
Due to the absence of starting centre Brook Lopez since the start of the season, the Bucks signed veteran free agency DeMarcus Cousins on Tuesday. In his Milwaukee debut, he played 14 minutes and scored seven points.
