February 07, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Kwara Falcons have set their sights on retaining their top position in the country after winning the 2022 Final 8 of the Nigeria Premier Basketball League.
The Ilorin-based team emerged as the surprise winner ahead of other favorites like Rivers Hoopers, Kano Pillars, and Gombe Bulls. The team’s captain, Ajileye Seyi Gideon, is also looking forward to representing Nigeria on the international scene in the upcoming Basketball Africa League (BAL) Season 3.
Gideon, a 20-year-old point guard, said it was an opportunity to demonstrate his talents. He noted that he believes it was not going to be easy, but he and the rest of the team were focused and ready to give it their best shot. Also, Falcons head coach, Baba Jibril, a former national team player, was also eager to make a good impression in the BAL.
Jibril also revealed that the team’s win at the national level was not a flash in the pan and that they were aware of the challenges ahead. He remarked that the club was working hard to fortify the team with players and technical support, and with the backing of the Kwara State government, they hoped to surpass the achievements of their predecessors, Rivers Hoopers.
Jibril acknowledged the changes in the standards of the BAL and said that the team will double their efforts to make a good impression in their inaugural appearance.
