May 13. (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich demonstrated their dominance in the Bundesliga title race with a resounding 6-0 victory over relegation-threatened Schalke at the Allianz Arena, courtesy of a lethal double from Serge Gnabry.
The win allowed Bayern to maintain their firm grip on the top spot, extending their lead to four points. However, Borussia Dortmund could narrow the gap if they triumph over Borussia Monchengladbach later on.
Under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel, Bayern asserted their authority early in the match, leaving Schalke with little opportunity to mount a challenge. Thomas Muller’s clinical finish and a Joshua Kimmich penalty put Bayern in complete control before the half-time whistle, leaving the visitors facing an uphill battle in Bavaria.
Gnabry’s brace in the second half compounded Schalke’s misery, as Mathys Tel and Noussair Mazraoui added late goals to further bury the struggling side. Bayern’s dominant performance mirrored their 8-0 thrashing of Schalke during their previous encounter in Munich back in 2020.
With an eye on their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title, Bayern now look ahead to their next challenge against RB Leipzig, while Schalke will kick off at home against Eintracht Frankfurt earlier in the day.
