May 10, (THEWILL) – Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea, is set to extend his stay at the club, with talks progressing well for a new contract.
The Spanish international, who is in his 12th season as United’s number one, has agreed in principle to the terms of the new deal. Although some of his errors have seen United concede some hurtful goals this season and questions abound about his distribution skills, United manager, Erik ten Hag, has pushed for De Gea to stay.
Talks have been ongoing in recent weeks, with reduced terms and add-ons likely to be included in the new contract. While United will still look to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer to compete with De Gea, they will reassess their options once the season ends and clarity is reached over the ownership of the club.
Additionally, United’s priority areas for strengthening this summer are upfront and in central midfield, pending the conclusion of the sale process and UEFA Champions League qualification at the end of the current campaign.
