November 06, (THEWILL) – Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff.

THEWILL recalls that the Presidency, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, announced the death of Lt. General Lagbaja, who passed away at the age of 56, on Tuesday night, in Lagos, after a period of illness.

Governor Alia in a message of condolence to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigeria Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, described the late Chief of Army Staff as someone who played key roles in ensuring internal security in the country.

He says the late Lagbaja, developed a keen interest in the security situation in Benue State and had worked assiduously with his administration to ensure that peace returned in the State.

In a statement signed by Sir Tersoo Kula, his Chief Press Secretary, in Makurdi on Wednesday, quotes the governor as praying to God to give his immediate family, the Nigerian Armed Forces and the whole country, the fortitude to bear this great loss.

The governor, the statement added, equally asked God to grant him eternal rest.
