May 04, (THEWILL) – Atletico Madrid claimed a decisive 5-1 victory over Cadiz on Wednesday, thanks to Antoine Griezmann’s impressive performance.
Griezmann scored two goals to add to his already impressive record of 13 goals and 13 assists this season in La Liga. With Griezmann leading the charge, Atletico Madrid have picked up the pace to close the gap between the frontrunners Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Diego Simeone’s side has now moved above their city rivals Los Blancos to take the second spot in the La Liga table, but they are still a long way off the leaders Barcelona, who require only two more points to clinch the title.
While Atletico Madrid’s run of victories, with only two losses and two draws in 14 matches, came too late for them to win any silverware this season, overtaking Real Madrid is a consoling reward for their efforts.
The team’s next match is against Elche on Sunday, and with Griezmann in such fine form, they will be hoping to continue their winning streak. Meanwhile, Mallorca will take on Cadiz on Friday.
