September 14, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have announced the signing of Spanish midfielder, Irene Guerrero, from Atletico Madrid.
The 26-year-old was part of Spain’s victorious World Cup squad last month, making three appearances off the bench during the tournament. Guerrero joined Atletico in 2022 and helped the club win the Queen’s Cup last season. The length of her contract and transfer fee were not disclosed.
The central midfielder has 16 caps for Spain and will add quality and experience to Manchester United Women according to manager Marc Skinner. “Irene is a World Cup winner whose quality is an excellent addition to our team,” said Skinner.
“The experience she brings, both domestically and internationally, will be key as we pursue success across the multiple competitions we face this season. We are delighted to bring a player of Irene’s stature to Manchester United Women.”
United finished second in the WSL last season. When the 2023/2024 campaign commences on October 1, Guerrero and her teammates will be away at Aston Villa.
