Gunmen Break Into Kogi Police Station, Kill Two Officers

SAN FRANCISCO, April 04, (THEWILL) – Some gunmen on Tuesday invaded the police station at Gegu village on Lokoja–Abuja road, killing two of the policemen on duty.

The incident has been confirmed by William Aya, Spokesman of the Kogi state police command.

Aya revealed that the corpses of the slain policemen had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.

He said the gunmen also injured one of the suspects in the cell adding that the injured suspect is also receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, some of the villagers told NAN that the gunmen, about five in number, came on motorcycles.

The gunmen, according to the villagers, immediately opened fire on arrival at the police station.

The incident, the villagers said, led to disruption in traffic movement on the ever busy Lokoja – Abuja road.

THEWILL recalls that there was a jail break, last week, in Kogi which led to the escape of some high profile suspects linked to Senator Dino Melaye.

Although, the suspects have been re-arrested, the Commissioner of Police in the state was redeployed by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
