Nigeria Football Federation President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau

October 19, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has set up a three-man panel of advisers for the preparation of age-grade National teams ahead of upcoming major international competitions.

The panel includes Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi, the chairman of the Katsina State Football Association, sports marketing guru, Hon. Bukola Olopade and Alhaji Abba Mukhtar, and will be inaugurated on Thursday, October 20, at the NFF Secretariat.

Gusau wants improvements to the performances of these national teams. The Under-23s, also known as the Olympic Eagles, will play Tanzania in a second-round match over two legs, this weekend in Dar es Salaam and in Ibadan the following Saturday with advancement to the next round on the line. The final tournament is scheduled to take place in the Kingdom of Morocco from November 2–26, 2023.

After winning their respective WAFU B tournaments in May and June respectively, the U-20 Flying Eagles and U-17 Golden Eaglets teams have already qualified for their respective continental competitions which held in Niamey, Niger Republic in May and in Cape Coast, Ghana.

The top four teams from the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Algeria from April 8–30, 2023, will represent Africa in the FIFA U17 World Cup finals in Peru. Nigeria wants to make it and it will be part of the panel’s responsibilities to see that it happens.
