Lewis Hamilton

March 18, (THEWILL) – Sir Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula One World Champion, has unveiled his helmet design for the 2022 season.

The design is a tribute to the scheme employed by the British driver in his karting days and his early years in Formula One long before he became the lead driver for Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team.

Hamilton has been using a black and purple helmet for the last few years, but for the 2022 campaign, he has chosen a new callback design, which signals a renewed dedication to his desire to recapture the championship.

Marking the change, Hamilton posted images of the new design online with the message: “For this year’s helmet I wanted to show love to my beginnings.

“As much as I love purple and black, yellow is my history. I’m going into this season with the same dedication, drive, and passion I had way back in my karting days.”

Hamilton enters the new season after a contentious finale to the 2021 season, in which he was denied an eighth Formula One title by Max Verstappen.

There are concerns that the Brit may face a tougher challenge this time as Mercedes expressed concerns about the pace of its 2022 car during pre-season testing, saying that it does not have a race-winning rival ahead of the season opening in Bahrain this weekend.
