September 04, (THEWILL) – Legendary Formula One driver, Sir Lewis Hamilton, has made it known that he would be open to working with British businessman, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, to acquire Manchester United.
Ratcliffe, whose £4.25 billion buyout offer for Chelsea in May was rejected because it was made after the deadline for offers, has already expressed interest in making a move for United.
Soon after it was claimed that the Glazer family is willing to sell a part in United for new investment, a Ratcliffe representative revealed that “If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer.”
Hamilton was a named participant in Sir Martin Broughton’s unsuccessful consortium, along with tennis legend, Serena Williams, in the Chelsea takeover controversy. Ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Hamilton said, “Jim is part boss, part partner – I’d say we’re more partners because we’re in this together, and I hope in future to do something with Jim and build with him.
“I don’t know where that will be or what that will be, so I can’t really say. I haven’t had a call from him asking if I want to be involved in [a bid for Manchester United] just yet. But I do want to get more and more involved in teams because I really do believe in black ownership, there is a lack of it in sports. And black equity, again, there is a real lack of that.”
