October 03, (THEWILL) – Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury during last week’s Carabao Cup tie against Brighton and Hove Albion. The left-back was forced off late on in the 1-0 victory and scans have since confirmed a bad hamstring problem.
Speaking ahead of Monday’s 2-0 win away at Fulham, Blues’ boss Mauricio Pochettino described the news on Chilwell as “bad”, but did not give a specific timeline for his return. However, reports suggest the 26-year-old could be out until at least December as Chelsea take a cautious approach to his recovery.
Chilwell took to social media to express his frustration at the injury blow. He vowed to support the team as best he can from the sidelines until he is fit to represent Chelsea on the pitch again. It is another setback for the England international, who has struggled for form and fitness over the past year.
Chelsea will be hoping Chilwell can return sooner rather than later as they look to climb the English Premier League table. But for now, he faces a lengthy spell in rehabilitation as the club’s medical staff monitor his progress. His absence leaves Chelsea light at left-back, an area they may look to strengthen in the January transfer window.
