August 22, (THEWILL) – In the middle of a transfer showdown with club and club Chairman, Tottenham Hotspur’s Vice-Captain Harry Kane was named on the substitutes’ bench for Sunday’s Premier League match at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
THEWILL reported that the Manchester City transfer target reported late to the Spurs’ pre-season training with what some believed to be a muted ploy on Kane’s part to fasttrack his transfer, an allegation that was later dismissed as false.
The English Captain however needed to self-isolate upon his return, which saw him continue to miss several days of preparation and training. Nuno Espirito Santo, Spurs’ manager had no choice but to leave him out of their first two games of the new campaign.
In Sunday’s game, as Santo returns to the Molineux Stadium for the first time since leaving Wolves, he has restored Kane to a place in the Spurs’ squad for the first time this term but in the bench as he sticks with the exact team that began their sensational 1-0 opener against English champions Manchester City last Sunday.
Kane’s transfer discussion continues to receive attention after the England captain came clean about his unhappiness at his club’s 13-year trophy drought. He also has not hidden his intentions to force a move to Premier League champions City before the transfer season shuts down at this month’s end.
Although the 28-year-old revealed that he “never refused to train”, he strongly holds on to his purported gentleman’s agreement with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to leave this summer, which Levy has not agreed to have entered with him.
Levy has insisted on a £150 million valuation for their prized goal-scorer and it is a cost that, at the moment, City have shown an unwillingness to meet, although they set a new transfer record for the English Premier League when they brought Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish to the Etihad recently.
Coincidentally, Kane did not feature when City lost to Spurs, which could have been an awkward circumstance, and the highest goal-scorer from last season was also not named in the side B squad that was defeated by Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira in their maiden Europa Conference League appearance on Thursday.
Before kickoff, Santo confirmed Kane was listed to feature as he said: “Harry is in the squad. The team is the same because we did a good job last weekend. The boys are ready.”
In the match that is currently underway, Spurs lead Wolves by a goal to nil, scored by the rejuvenated Dele Alli via a spot kick after a penalty was awarded to Spurs when Wolves keeper, Jose Sa, brought Alli down in the box in the 8th minute.
