July 22, (THEWILL) – Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson, has successfully completed his medical, marking a significant step towards his anticipated transfer to Al Ettifaq, the Saudi Pro League club managed by former Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard.

The 33-year-old midfielder, who has enjoyed a distinguished 12-year tenure at Anfield, is poised to finalise a three-year contract with his new team, bringing an end to his illustrious spell with Liverpool. The medical assessment was conducted in Manchester on Friday, and all that remains is the completion of paperwork to complete the £12 million move.

Henderson is expected to join Gerrard’s squad during their pre-season training in Croatia next week. The agreement between Liverpool and Al Ettifaq was reached after negotiations, with an initial fee of £12m agreed upon by the two clubs. Al Ettifaq had initially aspired to secure Henderson on a free transfer, considering his two remaining years on his contract; however, Liverpool’s management clarified that such an arrangement would not be possible.

Consequently, the midfielder, who made an impressive 492 appearances for Liverpool since his £16m transfer from Sunderland in 2011, is set to bid farewell to the club he has served with dedication and commitment.

In addition to Henderson’s impending move, there are talks underway regarding midfielder Fabinho’s potential transfer to Saudi Arabia. Al Ittihad, another Saudi club, are interested in signing the Brazilian player and have already submitted a bid of £40m. The negotiations are focused on structuring a deal that would pave the way for Fabinho’s potential move from Liverpool to Al Ittihad.
