March 07, (THEWILL) – Chelsea FC is anxious that if Roman Abramovich sells the club, high-ranking officials, who have seen to the successes recorded by the club, like Petr Cech, Marina Granovskaia, and Bruce Buck will leave.
Following Abramovich’s announcement of his intentions to sell Chelsea, a slew of investors have expressed interest, and there are serious uncertainties over whether the current hierarchy will remain intact under new management.
Granovskaia has the closest ties to Abramovich of the three. The pair has collaborated since 1997, with Granovskaia moving to London in 2003 to assist with the takeover and joining the board ten years later.
It is unknown whether she will stay once Abramovich leaves, and there are indications that Granovskaia could be one of a series of high-profile departures from Stamford Bridge.
Granovskaia had worked closely with Bruce Buck, the chairman who assisted Abramovich in acquiring Chelsea in the first place. The two do the majority of the work for Abramovich, but their positions may change if the new owners decide to hire their own staff.
There are also concerns that Cech, who became a club director after retiring in 2019, may be on the way out of Stamford Bridge with all the other uncertainties swirling around the London club at the moment.
Thomas Tuchel, the club’s first-team manager, has already expressed his intention to remain at the club after its sale, stating that he believes Chelsea are the “ideal match” for him.
Tuchel also stated that he intends to continue working with Cech and Granovskaia, but that he is confident in his ability to form a fresh connection with whoever replaces them and in his team’s ability to adapt.
