September 07, (THEWILL) – Hollywood actor Michael K. Williams, popular for his role as Omar Little in the HBO series ‘The Wire’, was found dead in his New York City apartment on Monday. He was aged 54.

According to police authorities, Williams was found unconscious in the dining area of his  Williamsburg pad with what appeared to be heroin on the kitchen table.

According to media reports, the death of the actor is being investigated as a possible drug overdose.

According to law-enforcement sources, drug paraphernalia was seen in the apartment of the actor  suggesting that he may have fatally overdosed on heroin or fentanyl.

“No foul play indicated, No forced entry, the apartment was in order,” the police source said.

In a statement, Marianna Shafran of Shafran PR, Williams longtime rep, wrote: “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this insurmountable loss.”

THEWILL writes that the actor was recently nominated for the 2021 Emmy Awards as best supporting actor for his role in ‘Lovecraft Country’.
