August 23, (THEWILL) – The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the face-off between the Super Falcons and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over nonpayment clashed during a hearing session on Wednesday.
Some lawmakers accused committee chairman Ekene Adams of obstructing the investigation by telling NFF president Ibrahim Gusau not to appear before the committee. At Tuesday’s sitting, ad-hoc committee chair Blessing Onu summoned Gusau for failing to appear.
She also dismissed NFF Secretary-General Mohammed Sanusi from the hearing venue. Onu said the investigation was not a witch hunt but to fulfill the House mandate. She frowned at Gusau’s refusal to honour the invitation and said his excuses were less important than the committee’s work.
“Nigerians are interested, Nigerians are watching. The girls did extremely well and they made Nigerians proud, so we shouldn’t take this investigative hearing likely,” Onu said. She re-invited Gusau, saying his attendance at a FIFA convention was less important than addressing the Super Falcons’ payment issues.
Earlier, Sanusi said Gusau could not attend due to ill health. The clash shows tensions between the committee and NFF as lawmakers investigate the long-running dispute over allowances and entitlements owed to the women’s national team.
