BEVERLY HILLS, March 30, (THEWILL) – Veteran actress, Patience Ozokwor, more popularly referred to as Mama G, has revealed that she was forced into early marriage as a young girl from a polygamous family.
According to her, she didn’t get to choose her husband as the decision was made on her behalf by her parents who didn’t want her to wait for the man she actually loved.
She also stated that the said marriage she was compelled to go into turned out to be horrible.
However, she remained in the marriage because at that time it wasn’t acceptable to leave one’s husband whatever the experience.
Following the love her father had for her and the desire not to put her family to shame and the need to take care of her children, Patience said she endured the marriage.
She revealed that upon discovering that her husband had been afflicted with a terminal illness, she summoned the courage to cater for her family and went on to single handedly raise her children after his passing.
Sharing her thoughts on 21st century marriages, Ozokwor said what obtained today in the name of marriage was “baffling.”
According to her, marriage should be forever.
Expressing fears about the growing erosion of marital values, she advised mothers to make it a point of duty to pray for their children.
