March 21, (THEWILL) – Zlatan Ibrahimovic has opened up about the struggles he faced to revive his career following three knee surgeries.
The 41-year-old AC Milan forward spoke to the media ahead of Sweden’s upcoming match against Belgium, which he is set to play a substitute role in.
After helping Milan win the Serie A title last season while playing through injury, Ibrahimovic underwent surgery on his left knee. However, the recovery process was difficult, and he initially saw no improvement. “I never saw any light that gave me energy, that gave me answers that what I was doing was good,” he said.
Eventually, Ibrahimovic emerged from the “dark room” and was able to make a comeback. Despite his age, Ibrahimovic remains determined to wring every last drop from his career. He recently became the oldest scorer in Serie A history, and he hopes to add to his tally for Sweden, which he last did in November 2015 against Denmark.
“If the opportunity comes, I will score, 100 per cent,” he said.
