August 10, (THEWILL) – Leicester City duo, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, got on the scoresheet on Wednesday, as the Foxes defeated Burton Albion 2-0 in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Iheanacho opened the scoring in the 6th minute after finishing off a pass from Marc Albrighton. The Nigerian forward later assisted compatriot Ndidi’s goal just before halftime to give Leicester a comfortable lead. It was a positive performance from Iheanacho, who came on as a substitute in Leicester’s league opener against Coventry City last weekend.
The 26-year-old will be hoping his goalscoring display earns him a start in the Foxes’ upcoming Championship match against Huddersfield on Saturday. For Ndidi, it was a chance to get some minutes under his belt after he played 62 minutes against Coventry City. The midfielder was replaced by Dewsbury-Hall in the 57th minute with Saturday’s league clash in mind.
Iheanacho’s contribution earned him the Man of the Match award against the League One opponents. The Nigerian duo were influential in ensuring Leicester avoided any potential upset against lower division opposition. Both Iheanacho and Ndidi have been linked with summer departures from Leicester.
However, their performances in the League Cup indicate they still have plenty to offer the Foxes this season as the club looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2022/2023 campaign, which saw them relegated from the English Premier League.
