July 23, (THEWILL) – In Leicester City’s 3-1 win over Derby County, Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, scored his first goal of the preseason as compatriot, Wilfred Ndidi, made a comeback from an injury layoff.
In the Foxes’ fourth preseason game, this time against English League One team Derby, Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, gave Iheanacho his first preseason start. Ndidi also made a comeback for the former Premier League winners after a long three-month absence.
Despite being the superior team in the first half, Leicester City were unable to break the deadlock. Iheanacho and Daka appeared spry up front, their runs continually keeping the Rams’ defenders on their toes.
However, the quality of the Foxes won out in the second half, as Iheanacho hit a perfectly placed shot with his left foot into the goal, leaving goalkeeper, Joseph Wildsmith, in no man’s land. Ndidi appeared to be in good shape too, but, as a cautionary move Rodgers substituted him for Nampalys Mendy at the hour mark.
The Nigerian’s absence from the centre of the park, where he held his own, was quickly taken advantage of by Derby County, who equalised in the 62nd minute.
They were, however, unable to hold Leicester to a draw, as Patson Daka and Callum Wright, both scored to give the East Midlanders a 3-1 victory.
