May 07, (THEWILL) – English teenager, Samuel Iling-Junior, made an impressive Serie A debut for Juventus, finding the back of the net as his team secured a 2-0 victory over Atalanta.
This win propelled Juventus to second place in the table, surpassing both Inter and Lazio in the race for Champions League qualification. Despite facing sustained pressure at Gewiss Stadium, Massimiliano Allegri’s side managed to clinch back-to-back Serie A victories.
Atalanta had several near-misses during the match, almost gifting Juventus the lead in the 22nd minute when Angel Di Maria failed to capitalise on a loose pass from Teun Koopmeiners. Juventus survived a couple of scares before halftime, with Giorgio Scalvini’s header striking the post and Mario Pasalic firing over from close range.
However, Juventus broke the deadlock 11 minutes into the second half when Iling-Junior reacted swiftly after a ricochet from Adrien Rabiot’s cross, firing into the roof of the net. Then, Federico Chiesa spearheaded a rapid counter-attack and provided a sublime pass to Dusan Vlahovic, who unleashed an impressive 20-yard strike into the top-right corner, sealing the points for the visitors.
Juventus’ attention now turns to the UEFA Europa League, where they will face six-time winners Sevilla in the first leg of their semi-final clash on Thursday. Meanwhile, Atalanta will look to boost their Serie A top-four hopes when they travel to Salernitana on Saturday.
