July 06, (THEWILL) – President Joe Biden has rebuffed calls to quit the United States Presidential race, saying only God can convince him to do so.
His remarks came amid calls to step down following a poor outing at the presidential debate with Republican candidate, Donald Trump, on June 27. Some US voters, political analysts and stakeholders have also expressed concerns over his health and mental alertness after the debate.
Addressing concerns from within his Democratic Party about his age and cognitive health, in a primetime interview with ABC News, Biden was adamant about his capacity to serve another term, saying, “If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get outta the race’, I would get outta the race. The Lord Almighty’s not coming down. I mean, these hypotheticals. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to be president or win this race than me.
“I have a cognitive test every single day. Every day I have that test – everything I do (is a test).
“Look, I’m running again because I think I understand best what has to be done to take this nation to a completely new level. We are on our way. We are on our way.”
