February 22, (THEWILL) – A shocking photograph of a Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) official urinating on the pitch before a match against Akwa United has led to a fine and suspension for the club.
Davidson Owumi, the Head of Operations for the Interim Management Committee (IMC), charged 3SC with failing to control the conduct of their official and warned the club’s management to take steps to prevent such behaviour in the future. The club was also cited for breaches of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Framework and Rules.
In a statement, the IMC detailed two separate charges for the breaches of Rules C1 and C9. The club was fined N500,000 for bringing the game into disrepute and failing to control the conduct of their official. The official in question, Auwal Mohammed, has been suspended from all NPFL-related activities for one year.
The incident caused outrage amongst football fans and commentators alike, who all berated the parties involved for the distasteful conduct. The IMC’s decision to fine and suspend 3SC has been widely welcomed.
